SLALOM COURSE

Class C - Slalom Course
SLALOM COURSE RULES
10-10-18 - After the annual meeting we realized an update to this page was needed. At this time the supplies are not kept on the lake in the dock-box.  We will come up with a plan soon. The most important thing is to try to attach a buoy right away with tie wraps or flexible wire. Keep a few on board.  If there is damage you cannot fix, call or email Rich, Gayle, or Jeff.  Without the dock and dock-box we can not provide set-ups for you. I have added some detailed photos to give you a good picture of how the slalom course is assembled.

Please note: Pulling up on a good set up to fix a broken one may break the good one. Too much pull will break the black tubing. We have a pole snag hook to lift the chain up. You can drag it behind your boat as you go very slowly over the area. The pole is very long. It is temporarily located in the west side bushes opposite the south side green set up balls.

  1. Boats shall not drive down the center line of the slalom course (between the yellow boat guide buoys) unless towing a slalom skier or calibrating speed control equipment or speedometers.
  2. If a slalom course buoy or magnet is clipped, it is the GCSC permitted boat owner's responsibility to immediately replace it in accordance with the slalom course assembly/repair procedures set forth on the GCSC website, utilizing the materials stored at the north end of Lake Lauderdale in the dock box. Members were given the access code with their club welcome letters. If a member has misplaced the code, please contact the President to regain access.
  3. If a slalom course shore-to-shore line is cut, it is the GCSC permitted boat owner's responsibility to immediately contact the President.
  4. If a GCSC member witnesses an infraction of Rules 1,2,3, he/she shall immediately notify the president of the infraction.
  5. All owners of boats to be permitted by the GCSC must physically demonstrate the approved slalom course buoy assembly procedure, as illustrated on the GCSC website, prior to receiving their key to the boat ramp.
These are Type II Rules: A violation will result in a 30-day suspension on the first violation and a revocation of membership on the second violation.

SLALOM COURSE DAMAGE PREVENTION & REPAIR DAMAGE PREVENTION
The slalom course repair rules, effective 6/21/05, represent an effort by the GCSC to prevent damage to the slalom course due to negligence. All GCSC boat owners will receive this information. It might be helpful for the boat owner to keep it in the glove compartment of the boat for easy reference.
  • Please observe the following practices while driving/skiing:  If you are not actually towing a skier through the slalom course (for example, wakeboarding, barefooting, tricking, hydrofoiling, free skiing, etc.), do not drive your boat down the center line of the course. Instead, pull the skier outside of the slalom course (i.e., to the east of the course as much as possible). Even if you are pulling a skier near the course, if he falls, the rope can become entangled in a buoy when you turn the boat around to bring him the rope.
  • While pulling a slalom skier through the course, don’t watch the skier in the mirror. Keep your eyes focused on keeping the boat centered between the guide buoys at all times to avoid running over them.
  • When towing a skier outside of the slalom course, make sure the boat driver is watching where he is driving, not watching the skier. Brief the driver to avoid all buoys while driving, and when bringing the rope to a fallen skier, make sure the tow rope or handle doesn’t catch a buoy.
  • When making repairs to the course, do it when no other boats are operating near the course, or suspend all skiing, so that their propellers will not cut the shore-to-shore lines that support the course SEE SLALOM COURSE DIAGRAM
ANATOMY OF THE SLALOM COURSE and HOW TO MAKE REPAIRS Note: In order for a GCSC boat owner to receive a key to the Lake Lauderdale boat ramp, he/she will be required to demonstrate the ability to put together a BOUY ASSEMBLY
The slalom course is supported by 10 lines that run from shore to shore (---------), at precisely measured points.
There are a total of 26 buoys:
  • G buoy - 2 green cylindrical setup boat guide buoys at the north and south end of the course
  • R buoy - 2 red round gate buoys at each end of the course •
  • Y buoy - 6 pairs of yellow cylindrical boat guide buoys down the course’s center line
  • R buoy - 6 red round skier turn buoys at the outer edges of the course
SLALOM COURSE REPAIR
Each buoy assembly requires the following materials which are stored at the north end of Lake Lauderdale in the club’s deck box. Please remove only those materials you need to make repairs, so that materials will be available for others. • Buoy (yellow or green or red) • 36” piece of rubber tubing • 4 plastic tie wraps • 1 plastic snap • 30” piece of grey cord Eight of the 26 buoy assemblies also require a Magnet to be installed on the rubber tubing just below the buoy.

The SLALOM COURSE DIAGRAM shows which buoys have magnets, (labeled Y/m and R/m in the diagram)..................................... updated 10 -2017
